Funny story about a tree only a fireman could love cutting.
Filmore was in the SAWW workshop with me last week. He's a fireman in Mill Creek and wanted to learn proper technique for those very rare occasions when his department uses its chainsaw to cut trees.
His first day back at work their first call was about a tree on fire!
His unit arrived to find a 20 foot snag with smoke coming out the top. Fil grabbed the saw and stepped up to cut the burning tree. He took careful aim, dropped the tree into a creek and put out the fire.
Fil e-mailed the action photos and said, "It was more funny than anything because it was the first call that I had been on since the saw training... pretty ironic! And I felled it in the exact spot that I aimed for."
Dead snags will make any sawyer nervous, even when they're not on fire. But Fil's first kids were twins, so apparently he likes to jump right in.
Congratulations Fil. The universe wanted you to get practice you won't soon forget.
