About this Blog

We manage 20 acres of private forest land in north-central Washington, where we are building a log home. This blog is about our experiences, in hopes that another family forest owner will be better able to manage their own stand economically -- before fire or disease manage it for them.

Thinning and pruning were necessary before building because of regional forest fire danger. We thinned on our own because a commercial harvest was uneconomical. Ours is now a healthy ATFS-certified sustainable forest, thanks to the help of many experts, friends and grants.

We broke ground for the log cabin in 2015. We are building it using logs from our land.
